Master Kilmer... I would like to acquire a GM truck with good bones but perhaps a dead non-rebuildable engine for a new engine and potentially new tranny swap.   I see GM GoodWrench has many NEW engines available and like the idea of a brand new engine (I think).  Which engine(s) and tranny(s) would you recommend and for which trucks would it belong.   I have a 1999 Suburban K1500 which is NOW in good shape, so am familiar enough now with its mnt/repair and ready for another project.  I am particular interested in simple mnt/repair capability and longer term appreciation.  thank you kindly.

Here is the rub if you buy a brand new GM engine it is not a brand new GM engine built in a GM factory. All the ones I've seen were made with new parts but put together God knows where by God knows who and often they didn't hold up all that well. For real engines you go to the speed guys that like mess around with GM and they do it right but you're going to pay for it serious money
