ALL of these have a manual transmission
Car 1: 2005 Honda Civic EX coupe with 160k miles on it. They are asking $2250
Car 2: 2010 Honda Civic EX-L coupe with 214k miles on it. They are asking $2500
Car 3: 2014 Nissan Versa note with 65k miles on it. They are asking $4,000
Car 4: 2006 Toyota Corolla CE with 86k miles on it. They say the sway bar is broken. Some rust spots. They are asking $2800
Car 5: 2008 Honda Civic LX coupe with 106k miles on it. They are asking $5,500
Which cars are traps, which are gold? Any tossups?
Looking for a car with max life left in it. I drive around 5k miles a year. Just need something efficient and cheap. Idc about safety. I can repair some things on a car and watch videos on others. Fluids I will let an independent mechanic do. It can last me another 5 to 10 years or so. Probably around the 2030's I'll get a 2020 or 2025 Mazda Miata.
I don't and won't constantly run the car in a parking lot to go from store to store. I can just walk from store to store that's in the same plaza, or just go after work. I work right in the shopping plaza. Essentially, very little stop and go. Il get one of those carts that you fold up, or get a fold up bike with a basket behind it.
Here is my take:
Car 1: Pretty good cars but nothing really special about them, but it does have fewer miles than car 2.
Car 2: That's a lot of mileage but if it runs great they can be excellent, plus a very good price.
Car 3: Not a fan of the Versa (I would probably look into a Sentra with a manual instead since they are better), but they can be decent with a manual.
Car 4: Its got low mileage and that gen of the corolla was excellent unlike the 2009-2013 models which were kinda crap IMO, but I would probably walk away with rust issues and what not, cuz it's not worth putting up with. Unless you can offer him less, don't buy it.
Car 5: Pretty good cars, but make sure you have a mechanic check the engine out cuz some of them had the cracked engine block issue especially ones from 2006-2008 and that's big bucks. If it is showing signs of that run away from that, if not it can be a good car too.
My ranking of these cars best to worst:
2, 1, 5, 3, 4
Between 1 and 2 the 1st one could have been more city at around 10k miles a year, car 2 is more likely to be highway miles at 20k a year about.
Are the versa engines weak, or is the whole car, even with a manual, weak?
The corolla's rust is on the back right door and on the bottom of the wheel well on the back left side.
Did honda recall them? Would they still recall it if the engine wasnt replaced, or is it too old at this point?
Versas can be decent as they have good engines and manual tranny, but getting the Sentra would get you a nicer car, since it's not much more than the Versa.
I would still walk away from the corolla considering the rust issues
Honda mostly recalled the 2006 civics for cracked engine blocks, the 2007 and 2008 models were not as bad as 2006, but some had the issues and I don't believe Honda recalled 2007-2008.
Honestly I dont care about a nice ride, I care about whichever will last me a very long time and get very good fuel economy.
If the rust is ONLY on the body, and NOT the actual frame, is it still not worth it? The rust on the door is on the back right door around where the handle is. That's never ever going to be used anyway. Plus on the driver side rear fender. I may be able to get one of those from a junkyard for cheap. I looked on carparts for them, they are a few hundred bucks for some reason, and the front ones (ofc the ones that don't need to be replaced) are like 30 bucks a piece.
Choice 5 is the only one I'd consider, and only after a thorough mechanical inspection.
Depending on the “rust” even if it’s not widespread yet, will only be a pain in the neck down the line. If it’s on a single panel and you don’t care then I guess you could always replace once it rots away (which it will)
The rust on the corolla is on the back right door and the back left wheel well. I can replace the door. The wheel well I think is easy to replace also.
1) choice 5
2) choice 1
3) choice 2
4) choice 3
5) choice 4
