hello All, i'm starting to look to buy a Jeep Wrangler just to have fun. Looking for used between 2009 - 2017. i've read the there is issues with some of the engines in the past and just want to avoid known issues with some years. thanks
Engine-wise the best Wranglers were the older ones with the straight-six engine, though they can have other problems. Here's a year-by-year rundown of common Wrangler problems:

I would avoid any Jeep vehicle made after about 1985. Fiat took over Jeep in 2014 and the brand has been a disaster after that.
I agree whole heartedly with our esteemed members Chuck Tobias and Doc (and Scotty has said similar in the past). I would avoid all those model years. Quality control issues and electrical gremlins will be waiting for you even if the powertrain holds up. They just were not designed or built well. I off-road a lot and would have gotten one if they were decent (and I researched and looked very hard); instead, back in 2017 I went with a GM off-roader (2009 Hummer H3 with V8). Even though it’s held up for me I probably should have gotten a Toyota FJCruiser in 2017.
