White residue on radiator hose

2018 Toyota Sienna with 33,000 miles.  For some time now we have seen the upper radiator hose turning a chalky white.  The lower hose has not.  The rubber intake pieces between the Throttle body and intake also have turned color, just not to the same extent.  Should I be concerned about this change?  Hoses are cheap but I hate to toss a good part too.  Your thoughts?

Just keep an eye on them, and make sure they are flexible and not cracked.

It seems something from outside dripped on it. Have you tried cleaning it yet and see if it comes back?

Nothing dripped on it. The white has been getting more noticeable as time goes on. A wet cloth removes it. Just wondering whats going on and if the hose is compromised in any way.

It does not look like it is coming from the hose. I would still say wipe it off and watch for it.

Is that mould? Is the car parked often outdoors, in the rain & rarely used?

Seems odd that just that hose is affected..

Not mold, always lives inside the garage, rains all the time(its Florida for gosh sake) but its run every day. Only the one hose has this level of white stuff. The intake also discolored but not to the same extent. Like the last pic shows, a little water on a rag cleans it right off. I'll report back if it reforms. Nice Avionics btw 🙂

Seems like you’re not the only one & Toyota isn’t the only OEM affected -

And lol, standard B738 suite..

Have you had it since new, or did you buy used??

since new

Interesting reading on the subaru thread, but still no real concrete answers.

Ok, thought if it was used maybe it could be some engine bay detailing stuff a dealers put on to make engine bay nice and shiny. From your description it's acting like there's some residue on the hose since it wipes off with a wet rag.. Things that make you go hmmm. Strange indeed

It’s very interesting you say that because I have been looking at used 2016-2018 Lexus GS350 to buy and in some of the photos I see the upper radiator hose is chalky white as well.  In other photos it was clean.  It wasn’t a dealbreaker to me, but now that you mention it - I should investigate.  None of my current vehicles do that and some of them sit outside in the elements, so it is a curious thing.
