Hello Scotty! Hope you are doing well. I have an 04 ram 4.7L V8, auto with 116k miles. It was giving a code at startup for a random misfire(with a 0 as the cylinder indicator) once every 2 months or so and would run rough. I shut it off, scanned and cleared code, and it started up and ran smoothe. No issues at all between codes popping up. All of a sudden about 6 starts ago, it had white smoke with a sweet smell billowing out of the exhaust at startup but it completely goes away after about 3 minutes. It's way more smoke and thicker than normal condensation. Also it was doing it when it was 70+ degrees out. Any ideas?
Clearing a code never fixes a problem.
That sweet smell is antifreeze.
Warped plastic intake manifold causing the intake gasket to leak (smoke test would confirm that) is known 4.7 issue.

Hello thanks for the response. I know clearing the codes don't fix the problem. I looked up the code online and most places said that if it doesn't designate which cylinder innthe code, and only does it sporadically, its not much to worry about. When the code was popping up, there was no white smoke at all. It hasn't thrown a code for probably close to a year. I don't drive it much and, only put 12k on it in 2.5 years. Id say last time a code popped up was late winter. And it started smoking about 2 months ago, which I have put maybe 100 miles on it since then. I figured head gasket but wasn't sure with the amount of miles and that it never overheated.
Definitely check the headgasket leak. Do not ignore it.
