Hi Scotty! Thank you for everything you do! Hope you're well.
My (used) 2014 Scion XD manual, 200K kms came with Michelins (still good) on the back and Triangle (terrible in the wet) in the front. In Ontario it seems (Orig. size) 195 60R16 is extremely hard to find and expensive. Can I get rid of the crap fronts and put on a pair of decent quality name brand 205 55R16 (scion forums say closest thing to original at 1.2 or 1.3 % difference)? One tire shop said, "change all 4; don't go diff. with 2; bad for driveshaft".
Or, I think I could find the orig. size easier if I go over the border to NF NY / Buffalo.
Thanks again. I appreciate it.
Installing different size tires on the car can confuse the ABS and traction control systems. You'd have to research the tolerance your particular vehicle has for tires of differing diameter.
You can run a slightly larger or slightly smaller diameter tire on the front and it shouldn't hurt anything. Any change in the circumference/diameter affects the data sent to the ABS, TCS, speedometer, mileage, etc, etc.
this site will provide you with an alternate size Tire Size Calculator
it would be best to replace all four. But on a FWD car, you should put the tires with better traction on the rear to avoid loss of control.
