Since ICE engines and transmissions are extremely complex and expensive, they're the #1 reason why some car manufacturers are considered to be more reliable than others. And so when electric cars become the norm, will that put people like Scotty out of business since electric cars are extremely low maintenance? Will car manufacturers like Mercedes and Land Rover catch up to Toyota and Honda in regards to overall reliability when they switch to electric motors?

never will electric cars become the only method of transportation, iam sure you will still need some metal gears or maintenance. if you believe that there will be 100% electric that powers itself with solar energy and a really big battery, nothing else, youre talking about the next big change of development. something like that will not come cheap, you will pay BIG BIG TIME. EXPECT A CAR LIKE THAT TO COST 125,000$ OR MORE. yet there is alot of low income families that will depend on cheaper transportation and people might have to keep repairing just to avoid costs. also your question is a little misleading, electric cars are alot more extremely complex than a regular car. that will require alot of expertise just to understand those new electric vehicles. one day transportation will become free. freedom and liberty to everyone for free thats the future
eventually all types of machines break down and theoretically yes electric cars are simpler but with corporation these days making things as cheap as they possibly can whether many of these manufacturers will make reliable electric vehicles is pretty much up in the air
