2020 Toyota Corolla LE - Blower motor high pitched electrical Whining noise - SHOULD I CUT MY LOSSES?

Hey Scotty,

I have a 2020 Toyota Corolla LE that I just purchased, the blower motor is emitting a very high pitched electrical whining noise. I happen to have good hearing (can hear up to 18000 hertz) and this noise is driving me crazy. My dealership swapped out the blower motor with another one but the noise is still here, they showed me another 2020 corolla which had the same noise, they said it must be a "feature of the vehicle" however there is an entire forum on Toyota Nation about this very issue: https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/blower-fan-high-pitch-noise.1662910/.

Currently there are no third party blower motors available from my research, I checked on Rockauto and the only third party blower motor I could find is out of stock: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/toyota,2020,corolla,1.8l+l4,3444154,heat+&+air+conditioning,blower+motor,6916, presumably because of this issue, I'm currently wearing earplugs to use the AC/Heater. I'm considering trading my vehicle in for a 2020 Civic, but will loose thousands if I do so, should I wait and see if the third party blower motor becomes available, my other worry is that the third party blower motor will make the same noise as well. I even tried swapping a third party blower motor for a 2019 corolla on rockauto: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=5429505&cc=3442462&jsn=895 but it was too big. Should I cut my losses and go with the civic? Note: the Civic and Hyndai Elantra do not make this blower motor noise, nor has any other car I've driven in my life (15+ vehicles)

@q-diddy
your dealer is responsible for fixing the issue, if youre still under warranty. they have to fix it, dont listen to the people you have to talk to the boss.

@q-diddy
dont get a new car, ive had new cars they wont care unless they get your money to finance a new car. they have to fix it. it could simply be a defective part, and dont get third party only use oem original

@reddevil1321
Yes, I've been speaking so far with the assistant service manager and a sales manager but at this point I'm going to have to speak with the GM. And the reason I was looking for third party parts was because it would appear the OEM is not designed right, or at least a very large batch was not designed correctly and is making this noise.

And I've never seen that myself but if they did replace the blower motor I would demand to see your old one cuz they may be just giving you a line of Bologna. I see that all the time either that or if the box sits inside of the car is warped or has a weird shape it will make a noise you might check that they might have made a bunch of them wrong but really it's their problem to fix it they sell the car and it's under warranty

@scottykilmer

Thanks for the reply Scotty, I know you get this a lot...but I"M A HUGE FAN OF YOUR CHANNEL!!!! anyways, the Toyota dealership told me the sound was simply a "feature of the vehicle" and I saw the tech replace the blower motor with my own eyes since I requested to be in the vehicle when the tech swapped out the motor. Both he and the service adviser could also hear the noise (they both were also young like me) apparently its an issue with the blower motor itself which is made by denso, perhaps a bad batch, if so, then a very large bad batch, and the dealership said there is nothing further they can do. The noise itself is intermittent and goes from bad to worse than back to bad and changes in intensity based on the fan speed setting (1-7) with 4-5 being the worst. The noise is definitely electrical and a Service adviser from Birchwood Toyota in Winnipeg said the same thing. I'm just stumped on how to fix it, perhaps sound proofing but the noise will still travel through the ducting/vents.

I took the 2020 Civic on a very long test drive and put my ear below the glove box, turned off the engine and ran the AC, I Jedi-concentrated and could just barely hear a very very faint whining noise from the blower motor however in no real world scenario would this ever be an issue, the blower motor in the corolla on the other hand is extremely noticeable if ones hearing is as good like mine is. I'm just surprised Toyota has not addressed this issue, I thought maybe this was my fault for not testing the AC more than I did on the test drive but I just was not expecting this to even be an issue.

Anyways I'm going to speak with the GM of Birchwood Toyota or perhaps the CEO of Birchwood and follow your advice, this is my first new vehicle I've ever purchased so I'm not sure what to expect in terms of service but I'll soon find out!

Thanks again Scotty, and all the best!

@q-diddy
you are not alone my friend. this happens to millions of people, myself included, this are just some of the things that come up because they are desperate and the parts are not made correctly. 1+1 does not equal 3. its common sense they want you to get a new car, do you know how much i paid for a new 2018 financed? expect 12,000$ extra over the MSRP price plus whatever fees they add to it. is not worth it, a new car will also come with its known problems in due time. you will just need to defend yourself or request a refund for the part and just wait until you find another that acutally works. the part could take some time, it all depends on the manufacturing they could take forever
