Hi i own toyota 4Runner 1996 so my problem is when its winter time i get in my car put in drive but it wont engage it keeps reving all of sudden starts jerk and clank noise . After that i start to drive normal pls help me fix this problem
Make sure the trans fluid is full, but at that age , the trans is likely starting to give out. The only "fix" is to replace it.
It'll probably help to let it warm up longer before taking off.
My advice would be to add some anti-slip additive to the transmission fluid. Because what's happening is what it's called. The fluid is thicker and your pump isn't pumping right and once it builds up then it engages in gear. It's basically a sign that you got a lot of miles. Now if you've been changing the filter and fluid regularly, every 50/60,000 mi you could change the filter and fluid. But if you haven't sometimes changing the fluid at high mileage will make them slip
