Winter Tires

Hey Scotty and others,

I have 2018 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 Automatic, but as you know in Alaska winter is coming! As of right now I have Blizzaks but I want to get studded tires and I am thinking to get Nokian Hakka9’s. Is that a good tire for my 4Runner or Blizzaks are just fine?

Thank you

Well it's up to you do you really need studded tires that's more for eating through ice do you get a lot of ice there

Yes, especially on the intersections and after snowstorm. And when I am driving on the highways, when the roads are icy, my 4R tends to swing slightly side to side.

General Altimax Arctic’s are impressive in the snow, and they are studdable.  I’ve had multiple sets for my Accord and Merc Grand Marquis, and kept buying them because I liked them so much.  I’ve never run them with studs though…haven’t felt like I needed them.  I’ve also run the Michelin X-Ice, and the General’s were much better in the snow and ice.
