Wondering about my First Car...

Topic starter

I've been driving now for a year in my Uncles 2011 Acura MDX. I have a drivers permit and I'm 16 years old, I plan on getting my driver's license soon when I'm able to nail parallel parking and some parking in general. My uncle plans on giving me his SUV and I am having trouble with the idea and I am wondering if an SUV is a good first car or not. I feel as if its not the best option for a first time driver and it is not like I need an SUV anyways. So I'm asking if an SUV is a good first car and any ideas for what I could do with my situation.

Mileage?  Also, is uncle giving it to you for free?

If it is free, take advantage. Extra space is nice to have, and you get used to driving a larger vehicle.

If your uncle is giving it to you free, then seize the opportunity and go with it. 1st car is for learning and making your mistakes on. Then once you get enough driving experience after a few years, get something you want. Give you time to save up $$.

My first car was a Rendezvous SUV when I was 19. Bad choice I know. But as far as driving, it wasn't harder than a sedan. I didn't drive like a maniac to impress anyone. So as long as you don't act like your virtual manliness pride on the road is important, and respect the laws, you'll be fine.

You might as well take advantage of it. I mean you already practiced a good amount of time in his car. Buying a used car is expensive nowadays.
