Worn out tie rods (Is it safe?)

Hi I have a Corolla 1998 (161000 miles) just find out my tie rods are worn out. Steering wheel kinda loose and I can see torn boots on both sides when lifting car on a jack stand.

I just ordered oem part from a dealer but it will take around 2 weeks to get here.

Will I be OK to drive like that for 2 weeks, or I need to replace it right away. I really dont want to go aftermarket but at the same time I read some stories online that tie rod can separate while turning.

It really depends how bad they are. You could still drive with them, but again depending how bad they are, they could break on you. Personally I would not risk it.

If one or both tie rods separate you will have no control over the car's direction.  If you need to use the car I wouldn't chance it. Even an AutoZone or NAPA store brand tie rod end is going to be a lot safer on the road than a worn-out, loose original part.
