Hey Scotty, I'll be picking up an 87 Toyota Supra in a few weeks that has the original 7M-GTE straight six. I understand that these engines can sometimes be problematic, and am toying with the idea of swapping it. I sure as heck cant afford a 1 or 2JZ, and don't know where to find a 1UZ V8. The 5VZ-FE is inexpensive and rock solid (and can be supercharged), should I put one in the Supra?
I wouldn't look at swapping motors to a V8 unless you have serious bankroll to make it happen.
You basically would have to change up everything on the car front to back, top to bottom to handle the additional power. New trans, new rear end, new fuel system, new computers, etc, etc. You also want to supercharge it, so that's additional costs as well for the blower, tuning, cams, suspension....this would be a LOT of money. If you can't afford a 2JZ swap, you definitely can't swing a V8 conversion. It's not as easy as dropping in the motor.

No worries! You'll get the next one. {black}
I think @Mod_Man knows his answer. I will learn from him as he responds to this question. I will say that you do have to change other stuff not just the engine like the electronics and other things.
