Hello Mr. Kilmer.
i'm trying to detect a ratling inside the engine of a Toyota Yaris, 1.0 from 2008. my customer says it has been running low on oil.
any ideas ?

If it only rattles on a cold start up, it's probably the VVTI system that should be replaced. If it rattles all the time, it could be a badly worn cam chain. It would probably be a good idea to get a mechanics stethoscope (Amazon and good parts stores sell them for $15-20 ) and use that to find out if it is the cam drive or the valve train or something else.
