Considering 2002 Toyota Camry

A local private party individual is selling a used 2002 Toyota Camry with about 195,000 Mi on it. They don't seem to have had it long and seem to be somewhat urgent because of a move to get rid of it. The only thing they're saying they know about the car is that it likely needs a timing belt replacement, and from the photos it looks like it has had some body work done as the panels don't appear aligned. They also state that it needs to be towed, BUT they only want $700. I have a commuter Toyota already so I could take the time to repair, and ultimately may just flip.  I'm pretty handy, but would need to Outsource to a mechanic for a timing belt.

  1. Would purchasing this car to repair for personal use be worth the investment?
  2. Alternatively, could be profitable if I decide to turn around and sell it after repair?

Thanks for all your honest content!

Ask yourself if you afford to lose $700? It's not running and it's been in a wreck.

Do you really want to gamble on a 21 year old car with that pedigree???

Oh heck no! Perish the thought.

OK, needing a timing belt replacement is one thing, but why does it not run and/or drive? A blown engine, transmission or suspension blows the deal unless you're buying it for parts. Do you have a place to park and work on it?
