| If you already have rust, an undercoating wont help you. Unfortunately, it'll just make it less obvious your car is turning into toast. I hate the gimmick people who advertise this. I live in WNY, and we have lots of salt. They dont undercoat ALL the parts, mostly just 4 points around the frame - if you take a can of the spray on stuff yourself, you can do it yourself with a tutorial, but mostly going to be a waste. eventually winter kills the car, better to spend on a car wash rinse once a week or two weeks than expect the rubber to work | |||||

| Hi Justin, Thank you for the quick response! When you say take it all back off do you mean remove the rubberized undercoating? If so, should I then get rid of any built-up rust and re-coat with a new undercoating? Thank you again, Alex | |||||

| Welcome new member! Search "undercoating" in the search box at the top right. You can see previous opinions on this. Short answer: some people like it (especially if you live somewhere with lots of salt on the roads). Some people don't (modern cars don't really need it; it's not better than just keeping your undercarriage clean). But unanimous that a bad/cheap/amateur undercoating is worse than none (if rust starts under the coating, it can be a nightmare). | |||||

| Hi Scotty, I live in Pennsylvania where the roads are salted in the winter. I just purchased a 2022 Ford F-250. My question: should I put additional undercoating on the better protect my truck? If yes, Any recommendations on what type of undercoating to use,- rubber-based or wax-based or other. Thanx Tom | |||||

| @nlord Nope, just rubberized undercoating period. If it's not rusted before, it will be after. water WILL find a way in. Always. And then the coating traps it in there. | |||||

| @chucktobias I've come to learn that Fluid Film primarily has Lanolin in the formula, which is a wax secreted by sheep. Who would have thought that sheep wax is one of the best rust protection coatings on the market! | |||||

| @oskool I've been using Fluid Film for quite a few years and it really does help slow corrosion, even on areas that already have rust. I apply it once a year in the fall using a spray gun. Also highly recommended by Eric O. of South Main Auto. | |||||

| ... digress... So I needed a sedan in a pinch and was looking at Accords in the 10-15K price range, there were quite a few options, but there was also an Avalon that came up in my search. So I drove about an hour to look at the Avalon, and I hear on the radio that Toyota and all the other manufacturers are reducing production dramatically due to covid shortages on micro chips and all that BS, so i decided if this Avalon was in good shape i was just going to buy it before used car prices went up again. So I bought a 2011 Toyota Avalon Limited with 100K miles ... | |||||
