| If you've already tried various snake oil products another is very unlikely to do anything but further lighten your wallet. Have you done any troubleshooting to check for other possible causes aside from the converter itself? Although the catalytic converter is the most common, there are other potential causes worth investigating. | |||||

| We advise replacing parts only if they test as being bad. (Guessing and loading the parts cannon rarely if ever produces a good result.) See the possible causes of and troubleshooting information for that code in the links below: It does appear you are running a bit lean if your long-term fuel trim is +8 to +12, though it's not too horrible for a 20-year-old high mileage car. You might want to check for vacuum leaks. | |||||

| ... know their engines and have seen them rebuilding older civics and CRV's. Anyhow, still having a strange issue with the p0420 code. I've tested and got voltages off Bank 1 Upstream and Down Stream Sensors and got graphs to compare to Bank 2. The voltages all seem to be in range. I've ordered new Air Fuel and O2 Sensors for both Bank 1 and Bank 2. But I had a shop recheck the computer and they were getting the p0420 but didn't see anything wrong either. They reset the computer and the code came back the same day. Someone told me to try use a ... | |||||

| ... on. I checked the ODB system and found that the p0420 code was the only error being reported. This stayed on for several days with no additional codes. I tried to reset the error the first day but the check engine light stayed on. On the weekend the check engine light has gone out but when I read the ODB system the p0420 code is still showing as present. Last year I had an O2 sensor error on Bank 1 and replaced the sensor. I've been researching this emission problem but don't know if this is a sensor problem caused by the sudden cold weather or ... | |||||

| I did check those. Earlier in the day I hooked up my scan tool trying to clear SRS light that came on when I changed my battery a couple weeks ago I could see the p0420 code with my scan tool but it hadn't thrown the sensor yet so no check engine light. Later on that day I'm driving down the interstate at 70 mph and the check engine light comes on so I pull over at the next gas station and hook my scan tool up and it's now showing the p0420 code is triggering the check engine light. Lately my car seems to not accelerate like it should and stutters on occasio ... | |||||

They replaced catalytic converter. 6 weeks later check engine code p0420 comes on. Take it back to mechanic said O2 sensor in front of catalytic converter bad. They also recommended a cleaner for the gas to make sure the catalytic converter hadn't plugged at all since O2 sensor was bad. Did both of those. The front wheel well cover caught on the tire and partially ripped away 20 miles down the road. Mechanic said wasn't them so ... | |||||

| Hello Scotty, I have a bit of a pickle. I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze LS 1.8L I4 non turbo, with now 180k miles, this year I have to get the vehicle emission tested, and I have a check engine light on. I got it checked out at AutoZone so I could get the codes. They are P2535,P0420,P069E. Are these codes something that would cause my car to fail emissions. I know for a fact that all Indiana do is connect to the OBD2 port to check the car. Other than that issue, my car seems to run fine for its age and milage. For a little history on the car, I purchased the car in 2018 when it only had 52K miles on it. I mainly do highway driving. | Hello, I have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia, 200k miles. It had a p0420 (Bank 1) code when I scanned it earlier today. I know typically this would require a new catalytic converter, but while looking at the live data a little while ago, I noticed that the O2 Bank 1, Sensor 2 sensor is flatlining at 0.035V, pretty far below the 0.1V-0.9V the other 3 sensors are performing at. Is it possible that this sensor could bring up this code? Other than the p0420, it has no other codes. The vehicle runs extremely well, which makes me question whether it is truly the cat or n ... | |||||

| 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan 4D (Silver) -255,700 miles- has p0420. I have never bought a car in my life and I bought this one just 10 days ago with the check engine light on. Apart from having to spend $35 to remove the rusty exhaust cover that was making weird noises after I scraped the bottom, I haven’t had to spend any money on it for mechanical reasons. And $35 was certainly too expensive for that 10 min labor, in my opinion. After that, I decided to get a $27 OBD2 scanner from Walmart and found that it was p0420. I erased the code while experiment ... | |||||

| Answer to: Chevy sonic sounds like a semi | 21Relevance | 9 months ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The first 3 codes all refer to cooling system temperature and thermostat problems. If you're lucky the cause is just a bad thermostat. P0131 indicates a problem with your upstream O2 sensor or its circuitry: P0171 indicates a lean condition. (This may be related to the problem being flagged by P0131.): If you are going to replace the O2 sensors hopefully you have purchased OEM parts from a trustworthy source. Aftermarket knockoffs have a high probability of not working properly and there are a lot of counterfeits around, particularly at eBay and Amazon. There is nothing here indicating a water pump problem. Usually those would make noise or weep coolant if they're going bad. Is there play or roughness in the water pump bearing, or is it leaking? (It's also possible for the water pump impeller to come loose or corrode, but that is less common and you would be experiencing overheating problems if that were the case.) p0420 is usually the catalytic converter but there can be other causes that should be checked out: You can use a back pressure gauge to check if the converter is clogged. Since you have codes there should be freeze-frame data. You might want to check for that as well as live data for issues. | |||||
