	Scotty can say a lot more on this. KBB is owned by the Cox group. They own Autotrader (or something like them), plus dealerships. They have a vested interest in higher prices. In Southern California, KBB is what EVERYBODY wants, even the impound lots near the Mexican border. I have bought two Rav4s recently... One certified, both were from a Toyota dealership, near private party blue book pricing (one under, one slightly over). I consider them major victories.

	Sorry to hear about your totaled car. I’ve learned recently from Scotty that blue book is not a good tool for determining value if you are on the buying end, because blue book values can be inflated. Nevertheless, many still use blue book. Maybe it works to your advantage to use blue book value as a starting point if you have not already. Good luck

	by going to the kelly blue book website kbb.com and looking up a vehicle. Take it with a grain of salt though. The prices seem inflated to me.

	... and here is the description he listed. Original 110056 miles on odometer. Drives and handles beautifully. The 3.9 liter v6 makes for a fun ride. Has 7 seats, hot heat, cold air, new tires, cd player with remote, light rust for the years driven. The traction control and abs light is on cause it needs a new wheel speed sensor, still breaks and stops perfectly also which dosent effect the driving one bit and also is a cheap fix. Was using it to haul the family around in but we just had another child and I'm looking for a 8 seater. I took very good care of it ...

	IMHO, use several sources to find comps. KBB is one of them. Look for similar cars on used car websites. Look at other private listings. Prices vary by region, scarcity, desire, and each is a case by case basis. KBB gives you an idea. And it seems it is to your advantage in this case.

	I found a car for sale and compared the asking price to it's suggested price on KBB. Can I use KBB as a reputable source to negotiate the price? It's a difference of about 1K. The car is a 1998 BMW 528i going for $4,500. On KBB t says between $2.2K - 3.7K
