Scotty, my insurance company and I cannot agree on the value of our totaled car. What is the best way to do this. Car is gone now so I cannot get a an independent appraisal. Car was a 2007 Lexus ES 350 in perfect condition with 125,000 miles; new tires, fuel pump, drive axles, repainted and detailed, interior detailed. Insurance just want to use comps not receipts for repairs. Company has now stopped communicating. Geico used to be a good company. No more. Next stop is social media to tell the world how bad the company has become.
Yeah the insurance company has the final say on the value and if in your area they use comps, which it sounds like is the case, you really have no recourse.
Geico is a good company. I've had them for years. You can't blame a company for following legal policy. Write your Congressman if you want change. And good luck with that.

Unfortunately, the way a car is valued is by comps in the area you live. Not how much you put into it.
If you are lucky, they might consider some receipts, but it is not guaranteed.
Sorry to hear about your totaled car. I’ve learned recently from Scotty that Blue Book is not a good tool for determining value if you are on the buying end, because Blue Book values can be inflated. Nevertheless, many still use Blue Book. Maybe it works to your advantage to use Blue Book value as a starting point if you have not already. Good luck
