2008 Nissan Xterra X 175k miles. Every few months it pops a coil. The ses light is on and was told by a mechanic that the code is due to a bank running rich. Sorry i dont have the exact code. I noticed that the vehicle is showing all the telltale signs of a bad vapor canister assembly. My question is could a bad vapor canister assembly make the coils go bad due to an incorrect air fuel ratio? Regardless it will be replaced, just curious if it will take care of the coil problem or is there something else i should do about it?
Unfortunately no the vapor canister is unrelated. If you could find out the code it would help. If it’s burning coils I would see if it’s always the same cylinder and I would go through and clean all the grounds on the engine harness as well as the engine room harness. The older maximas had a slightly common issue where the negative battery. cable would brake and cause coils to bliste. I hope that gives you some direction
