| Answer to: Which Scan Tool Should I Get? | 123Relevance | 4 years ago | Whatchamacallit | How-to | |
| ... cheaper scan tools. However, free lifetime software updates are no longer offered. Most manufacturers usually offer one year of free software updates, and beyond that you have to pay a yearly fee to keep it up to date. Generally, the more expensive the tool the more expensive the yearly fees will be. HOWEVER, EVEN IF YOU DON'T UPGRADE AND PAY THE YEARLY FEE YOU CAN STILL USE THE TOOL: You just won’t get the latest updates which includes bug fixes and sometimes unlocks more features and capability for certain manufacturer’s vehicles; and of course you ... | |||||

| Cannot recommend. xtool used to have a three month warranty. Then they went to 2 months and now one month. Why do you think? I think they are dumping defective scanners in the USA. I bought my D7 in the middle of last winter and I did not have access to multiple vehicles for testing. It was below zero degrees and I dont have a heated garage and only one vehicle. The unit powered up and updated nicely and came in a handsome case and was a nice good looking well built tablet. The problem came late when warm weather came and I had three vehicles to ... | |||||

| Scotty - Just watched your most recent video with the Ford truck and the xtool D8. When you can get a ThinkTool Pro for $769 and the xtool D8 for $688, would you still go with the xtool? *I apologize if I put my comments in the wrong place, this is my first time posting to the forum. | |||||

| I was close to buying the xtool D8 scanner when I ran across the xtool A30M. I am intrigued by the A30M especially at its price point. If I acquired one I would use it with a tablet because of the screen size. Essentially, I would like opinions on which to the two scanners should I buy? thanks | |||||

| Hi Scotty, I noticed on your recent Lexus SUV video that you were using what I believed to be an xtool D8 scanner. I'm looking to buy a scan tool and would rather spend a little more up front rather than getting stuck needing something like bi-directional control of CAN-FD protocol capability. I'm a serious diyer and have done pretty much everything bumper to bumper when I need to. I currently have the Autel Maxicheck pro and the Autel TS-508 for TMPS. I'm sort of leaning towards the xtool D8 but I'm a bit hesitant as there are several Chinese sellers and wh ... | |||||

| xtool does not test their scanners and they dont honor warranty. They send out a lot of defects and you can forget about any returns. You get a lemon you are stuck with it. | |||||

| Preferably in the Clarksville, TN area who'd be willing to show me. But if not, this is the best place I've got. I've got an xtool D8, but I don't really know how to use it AND interpret the data. I've searched youtube. Kinda need a tutorial I guess. I'm just a DIY, not advanced. I bought the thing because I could and thought that I'd be able to figure it out. Hah! | |||||

| I just recently purchased an xtool D8 BT version. For the most part I like it. 2 questions I have about it. 1, I know you can record live data and play it back later. Was wondering unless I'm missing some setting, does anyone know if you can play back data in graph mode say like when you are looking at it live and graphing how the o2 sensors are working. Can't seem to find that option. And 2, would the Autel Maxipro 808 which I found on Amazon about give or take $20 less be a better scan tool. | |||||

| ... personally do not like ThinkTool, I had a negative experience with them - but even I must admit the ThinkTool PROs is an amazing scan tool. I've seen pine hollow auto diagnostics use it on YouTube and it seems to be super capable for a thing that costs only $1k. ALTHOUGH I'd definitely check that it still can be used even if you choose to not pay for updates. I'm not familiar with xtool but the product seems to be decent, maybe even more capable than launch or think tool. Before you buy, double check that they actually have the capability you need ... | |||||
