Bought this from a college kid for 1000. My son and I drove it home as it is his first car. Are these really money pits? Car has 180000 miles and no apparent issues that we can find. Been driving it for about a month. What issues can I expect with these miles?

Yes endless money pit because part are expensive and made from plastic.
If you want to keep it I would do the following
Change all fluid tranny , coolants, axel/diff , brake.
Install a catch can
Inspect all the plastic and lines.
Pay attention to vaccum and pcv.

Yes they generally turn into money pits. But you paid so little what the heck drive it until engine or transmission has problems then ditch it
