uMy 04 ranger when I drive it will randomly get stuck in a gear and just rev to the desired rpm for that gear. For example I’m driving and it shifts from 3rd to 4th and will get stuck at 3000rpm and I have to shift to nuetral to reset it. Mechanic said it could be my shift solenoid I’d going bad or the max airflow sensor but before I go spending money thought I would ask here. Not to mention the fluids are great and the transmission shifts very smooth and not hard at all. I don’t think it’s slipping because slipping would be I could rev it out but it stays at 3000rpm most of the time so I imagine the engine isn’t getting enough air so it’s choking it off? What do you think Scotty??
Wow Francis you have someone because if it's not that it's going to need rebuilding and that cost a fortune
If it was the transmission how would I tell? Is there a way to tell if it’s the transmission?
what does it sound like to you Scotty?
Scotty doesn't usually revisit questions he's already answered. You'd need to have a transmission expert diagnose what's going on using a fancy scan tool - not someone who will guess at what might be wrong with it.
