- Hello, I have a 05 ford five hundred that I just purchased from a private party seller. The ac did not work when I bought it and I took it to the shop to have fixed. The shop replaced everything compressor, condenser the whole 9. Well last night when I pulled into my driveway I had the ac running and all of the sudden a loud hiss started happening which sounded like a tire deflating. Then what looked like white smoke started coming from under the hood. I shut car off immediately and went to pop the hood. When doing that I realized it had a funky smell and don't think it was smoke at all. I think that it might of been the refrigerant leaking all out somewhere. Is is possible for all of the refrigerant to leak out all fast and crazy like that? If so where would be a good place to check? Or could it of been something completely different? When an AC system blows it hisses and leaks out as fast as can be. The guy obviously screwed up I would go back to him to be mad as a hornet I'm sure he charged tons of money
