Have an 07 Accord EX-L (4 cyl) Subwoofer was stolen a few weeks ago. While driving yesterday, car died and smoke was coming from the negative battery terminal and somewhere near the starter. Heavy electrical smell. Took negative terminal, which appears to be melted a bit, off the battery. Made sure the wires for the sub were taped off/not touching each other. Went to put neg. wire back on battery and starter started cranking without the key in the ignition. What could be causing this? Seems like something is drawing way too much power and potentially shorted out?
Maybe the thief tried to steel the vehicle first before running off with your speaker. Look for signs of tampering.
Or maybe the short has damaged your ignition switch or starter relay. Welding them shut. Start with the relay.
Thanks!
Very nasty short circuit. It sounds like you have come kind of cockamamie aftermarket audio system in there, I would disconnect that and hope you have not burned out any computer modules.
Yep, son's car....
