Technicians, at Chrysler shop say they discharge ECM capacitors without an inline resistor between the positive and negative cables.

It's very likely to go into limp mode again.
The resistor reduces the chance of damage from a sudden surge or spike when you connect the terminals. You can buy those kind of resistors on ebay and Amazon, or from electronic component distributors such as Mouser. Of course depending on why your Caliber is going into limp mode it may not work.
