My 06 Ford Ranger 2.3L works just fine. But some days it takes time for it to go into second gear. Bought it at Carmax with 65k miles but I don't know if they changed it out. Transmission oil looks darker than what it should an doesn't smell burned. Should I still change out the oil with the filter or is it too late for that?
Forgot to mention, its an automatic transmission.

Drain half if it has a plug.. If not refill with half of the old fluid. Also add some lucas stop slip. Just a few squirts see how it proceeds from there. I just drain and filled a car with 156k with no problems
Unfortunately my transmission doesn't have the plugs. Gotta drop the pan to do the job.
I would say yes .. but sometime on transmission that have not been change since start it better to drain like a couple quart and just refill it.
I would change it
Scotty just made a video on it

Nice, just saw the vid! An he said exactly what I'm afraid of. That changing it out will mess it up. I remember an older video where he says that has customers with similar situation an never had the oil changed for the next couple years.
If you want to keep truck, then its time to take it to a transmission shop.
I would. Be nice if that fixed it.
Fingers crossed!
