16' Equinox
61,500 miles
Vehicle has been burning oil, so finally got the dealer to replace the piston rings prior to 60k, back in January. (who knows what they really did)
Past week I've noticed a "lite" knock or rattle from the engine, when on an incline. Typically when in reverse. For straight roads, no issues.
Wondering if this could be the start of a bigger problem...
Is there anyway to ID potential issue? Basic OBD scanner claimed no issues.
Clarification: which engine do you have?
Oops, sorry, the dreaded 4 cylinder.
All right if it knocks on an incline obviously the oil sump isn't sucking oil correctly and it's knocking from lack of lubrication. It will do that if you're low on oil of course but if you're full of oil I had advised dropping the oil pan and checking the oil pump feed it could be clogging up it is protected by a small screen that can clog up
Also check that your ignition timing isn't too far advanced.
Thanks Scotty and Doc.
Is it also a telling sign if the mpg is lower? I'm getting around 22mpg combined. Which I believe that's the rough range for city driving.
