Hey Scotty, big fan!
I bought a 1976 Datsun 280z 2+2 for $8k. Straight body and engine runs good. It has a 4 speed I want to upgrade to a 5 speed. Would you recommend I tackle it myself?
The big questions are how much experience you have doing substantial mechanical work, do you have an extensive set of tools, do you have access to a floor lift, etc. I know people who have failed at changing spark plugs, I know other people who could do it in an afternoon.
To be clear, 4 speed auto/ or manual to 5 speed auto/or manual?
Similar cars 240/260/280 biggest difference was the engines 2.4/2.6/2.8 L 4 cylinder engines. The Wheeler Dealers guys tackled an automatic to 5 speed swap in a 1972 240Z. Take a gander at Series 12 (2015) # 6. You'll at least see what's involved mechanically for the most part to see if it's something you want to tackle yourself and know your limitations.
