Have a chance to buy a 2008 Toyota AValon, 68000 miles, one owner who is a senior and can no longer drive. No leaks, new tires, MINT like new condition thru out, maintenance done at the dealer. Doing some research I found this particular engine has a serious problem. Looks like an oil line can burst, the oil drains out and destroys the engine without any of the warning lights coming on. Is this real issue ? Can it be fixed ? Or should I just avoid this car altogether ? The car is for our granbd daughter who is on a tight budget. Do you know if this oil line bursts because it has a short section of rubber hose in the middle of it and the rubber deteriorates and bursts ? Thanks for any help on this. Take care...
My advice would be to get a thorough general inspection of the vehicle, by a diagnostic mechanic, before considering plunking down any money. Mention this particular issue, but have the entire car inspected. If it's in good shape, and you're worried about the oil lines, they can be replaced. Use OEM parts, if you do buy this vehicle, and want to replace the hoses. Why? Because substandard replacement parts can create the problem that you're trying to avoid.
