I have a 1978 Buick skylark that turns off when parked or at a stop. Engine idle is really rough and engine sputters until it turns off. Has a carb and has 50,000 original miles. is an Automatic. No white smoke or anything, just rough idle.

Electric choke or manual? How do you store it? Do you put fuel stabilizer in it when stored?

Engines of that vintage typically have lots of vacuum hoses and vacuum-operated emission gadgets, so check for leaks. Carb may be plugged up especially if it has not been rebuilt with modern materials to withstand ethanol-contaminated gas. Check spark plugs to see if some or all are running too rich or too lean.
