Hello Everyone,
I currently own a 1984 Mercury Grand Marquis and I’ve been having electric issues with it. The car was sitting for a while and recently started it up because it’s my winter beater and winter is right around the corner. Jump started the car and it ran good for 15 minutes. Shut it off and it wouldn’t turn back on. Tested the battery and it’s good. Checked the alternator and it was good as well. Changed the starter solenoid and the Voltage regulator too. Car starts up and runs now but it is only running on battery. Alternator is good but is not charging or running. Checked all wires and they are all good as well.
Has anyone ran into this problem on this old Mercury or even old fords in general? If so please help a guy out!!! Thanks.
Check the battery power to the alternator and also make sure that the Exciter field wire gets power when you turn the key on and start the car if it does not excite the alternator it will not charge
