Hey Scotty:) My name is Dan and i have a 1988 Ford F-150 Custom 5-Speed Manual with over 500,000 miles on it and bought it for $500 from a private owner. He had to tap the solenoid a couple times before it would start in order to get it to my house, then a couple days later when i plugged the battery in, it would turn over and over without me turning the key, until i unplugged the battery. After replacing the solenoid, it would fire up just fine then the battery died. After installing the new battery, it would turn over but wouldn't start. So I replaced the solenoid again, still turns but doesn't start. I'm wondering what could be wrong with it, maybe relays? A shorted wire? Thanks for your time. 🙂

Since it is cranking, the next 2 things to check is spark and fuel. What engine do you have?

yeah you've got some kind of electrical shorts so often the ignition switch is the problem on something that old it can send power to starter but not to the ignition system I would start by checking that and the wiring coming off the ignition switch
