Ive got a 2011 escape Auto with 166k.
Normally it only cranks but wont start.
I can get it started if I gas it but
it dies as soon as I stop.
I dont have any other major indications
that anything is bad other than not
starting. I had it running for about 1
minute just now while gassing it at
about 3-400rpm and once it stopped
I check the engine bay and saw
something glowing orange at the bottom
over on the passenger side as if it
was hot. Again no indications other
than not starting. No codes. No lights.
No clicks and I hear the fuel pump turning
on. Any clue what it could be?

Change the fuel filter and then pressure test the fuel pump. You can also spray some starter fluid into the air duct and see if you can run the engine with that. If the engine starts, it does not get about fuel from the gas tank.

I had someone say its my catalytic converter. Is that possible?
