1988 lincoln town car crank no spark
Dear scotty,
I saw your episode about the town car saying what a great car it was. I found it in searching for help fixing mine that I already bought. It is a 1988 town car with 170000 miles automatic transmission and no check engine light. in great shape minus one small tear in the soft top at the bottom. No rust or anything like that. Interior is perfect except drivers elbow rest on door panel. Anyways, it was a friend's grandmother's car then his mother and I knew it to be a good running vehicle. It needed a alternator, so I had mine rebuilt at a reputable shop in town that I have used before many times for starters and alternators. After that is was running great! Did some small test drives and all seemed well. Decided to drive it to work and it ran hot halfway there, but finally when I was about to give up the temp started coming back down to normal. On the way home it ran hot again and I had to pull over. Since then it hasn't started again. I have replaced the starter (it sounded weak and sporadic) the starter relay, the icm, the coil, and still no luck. It cranks over strong but I cannot seem to get spark. I've checked wires everywhere. I noticed one of the wire harness relays was acting funny and one of the black ground wires( I think) was loose in the plug so I fixed that and o thought that should have fixed it but it's still not sparking. PLEASE HELP! I really like this car and would love to keep it if it will work properly. If not then I just can't keep it forever. I will have to cut my losses. The thought even occurred to offer it to you for free if you can get it going. Let me know what you'd say to that idea! I'm really just curious to know. I'm no master tech, but I can usually solve my own car problems. So scotty, giving you a shout out and I've been a fan for probably ten years or close to whenever you first started making videos. Thanks in advance!
The place to start is testing for spark and then the Power and Switching Signal at the coil.
Here's how to do that:

If you find Power but no Switching Signal then test that the ICM is getting Power, Ground, if it's outputting the ignition coil switching signal, and if it's receiving the PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) signal from the PIP sensor (crankshaft position sensor) inside the distributor.
