Hi Scotty!! I have a 1990 Chevy C1500 with a 5.7 2WD and automatic transmission. I bought it this year off a 90 year old man that’s had it since 93-94. The truck only has 105,XXX miles on it. But it is failing to shift into 3rd. It started out as a very slight delay then went into 3rd and 4th. But all it’s doing right now is hitting a very high rev and acting as if it’s in neutral. I was told it’s probably the filter since Chevy has a paper filter that tends to get clogged easily. And with the lows miles and me being the 3rd owner I don’t see it being the entire transmission. ANY help would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you!!
The filter is cheap, and a piece of cake to install, so it's worth a shot. It will also give you a visual on the inside of the tranny and the pan.
Just be careful with the seal. Make sure to reach in there and remove the old one and put a new one in. If you double stack them or reuse, then you will have problems.
Take care to buy the correct filter. There is a deep pan and shallow pan version.

Thank you!!
You're welcome. Let us know how it goes.

I changed it and it is still doing the same thing. I feel like my only option at this point is to get a whole new transmission. Any suggestions?
I agree
Take it to a transmission shop for a diagnosis which is usually free.
It can be as simple as a shift solenoid failure or it can be internal.
