I own a 1991 Toyota Pickup with 277,500 miles. I've really been thinking or entirely rebuilding the entire car from the ground up. HOWEVER, with how things are going on now... I'm not sure if I should rebuild the entire 22RE engine and supercharge or turbo charge it, or just throw in an electric conversion if one is available. I'm only 18 and I'm majoring in Automotive Technology. Really passionate in the automotive industry, but this really gets me confused. Everything is turning electric and for the generation I am growing up in, I'm unsure if I should just rebuild the entire thing with the engine, or toss in an electric engine.
Let me know your opinions, I NEED HELP DECIDING!
I would just rebuild it. Electric cars still have a long way to go to be viable transportation for most of us. I also wouldn't add forced induction. There is a LOT that goes into that and you would be spending so much money upgrading the rest of the truck to handle the power that it wouldn't be logical to do.
As @yaser said, if you want to do any type of race truck build, that would be a bad choice in platform.
Very true, but yeah I was planning to rebuild the entire chassis as well into a tubed. My plan would be to track it someday yes. I won't use it for towing lol EVEN though that truck was made to tow. Pretty much it will be a unique build. Like the racing Tacoma truck from DeBerti for example. Thank you for your reply! I will give this lots of thoughts.
@Mod_Man can help you more here a lot.
In my opinion, If you want to make a race truck, I would not choose that truck since you should basically build a new one and spend a fortune and I doubt the results are that great. Those tricks were not designed for that purpose. If you want a good reliable truck, do not modify it, just fix it up.
That is true but someday I did want to end up tracking it as and having it as a daily. It will be a money pit for awhile but for sure I want it a be something unique that no one has seen before. Like the DeBerti racing tacoma for example. I don't use it for towing and it will likely never be used for that (even though it was designed that way LOL). Although if anything I will rebuilt it for sure and give it lots of thought. Thank you for your!
Unfortunately, you cannot just "throw in" an electric conversion kit. I would rebuild it with the standard 22RE .
For sure I will rebuild the 22RE! The engines are basically a mini 2JZ. If someday I do blow it up from boost testing I will end up getting a Billet 22RE. Thank you for your reply!
If this is your daily driver, leave it alone.
If it's a project car, then go crazy. If you can pull off an electro swap, you're pretty much guaranteed a job post-graduation.
