My friend just bought a 1993 ford festiva with 143k miles smokes a tiny but on first start I think the piston rings are a little worn and oil is burning. What are your thoughts and how long do you think it will last?

Does it make the smoke when the engine is warm?

Yes but WAYY less like on first startup it's like a puff of smoke for a few seconds then died down a lot.
What color is the smoke?
Did you loose coolant too?

hope he didnt pay too much for it tbh. since its an oil burner, keep some oil and coolant in the trunk and check oil every time u gas up and add as needed. you're probably going to have to replace spark plugs and catalytic converter but dont think its worth it in ur situation
