Scotty , I recently purchased a 1993 Toyota Previa (minivan) with 86,000 miles. I bought it from a private party that was the vehicles second owner. I wasn't going to change the transmission fluid. I only check it regularly. (It is fine) What would you suggest? Leave it alone or change it at a certain mileage? I believe Toyota suggests changing it between 80-100,000 miles. I just don't want to ruin the transmission from changing the fluid. The person I bought the car from never changed the fluid, they just left it alone.
Thank you
I would change the filter and fluid and use Toyota fluid
I think you'd be just fine changing the fluid. Japanese made transmissions are extremely well made. I had a buddy with a 2000 corolla, changed the fluid for the first time at 150k miles, thing still shifts like it came right off the lot. If you're still within the Toyota recommended fluid change interval, I'd be genuinely surprised if it causes a problem.
