Hey Scotty! Would you recommend any of the F-body 4th generation V8 Camaros (93-2002)? The one I found is a 94 z28 with 160k and the LT1 V8 engine and automatic transmission. Are they reliable and is there anything I should be aware of in these cars? Thank you and Merry Christmas!
I wouldn't recommend anything but the 1998-2002 cars. The reason for that is the earlier models had the OptiSpark ignition system. For some stupid reason, GM put the Optispark unit right under the water pump. So the second you have a leak, or even condensation (they are INCREDIBLY sensitive to moisture), you'll be spending $800 to replace it. This is a frequent issue.
The LT1 V8 was a good motor. But the OptiSpark hassle alone makes most people avoid those cars like the plague. Also, the build quality was not that great: a lot of cheap plastic which cracks over time and some very fragile electrical wiring.
If you're ok with a project, and can get it cheap enough ($3000ish), it could be a fun car. But if you want something reliable for daily duty, absolutely not.
Generally guys beat the heck out of them but if you test it out and it's a good shape they are popular amongst American muscle car guys
Thank you Scotty and Mod_Man for the replies! 🙂
