Have a code P0340 cam sensor come up on my 1995 Ranger 4.0L...Ford says 1991-1995 Ford Ranger with X Vin number (4.0L) doesn't have one.

Vehicle runs fine, what else could give a code like this...put new alternator and battery cables...charged the battery.

After reset the code continues to come back...truck runs fine, but that code worries me.

Please help....Thanks

Warn timing chains or timing belts can often cause that code to trip if sensor is okay

You don't have a cam position sensor like the other  rangers. When they threw that code we'd just pull the old sensor off  of the top of the camshaft synchronizer and replace it with a new camshaft  position sensor and see if that cleared the code.

2 little screws. Easy Peezy

In your 4.0 L the  cam synchronizer/sensor is 1 piece.

You can't just replace the cap (sensor) on it. You have to replace the entire unit. It's a real "peach". It's located under the intake on the top surface on the cylinder block. A real pleasure  to get to.

There's a whole process of changing it out and it begins before you even remove the old one so watch a few youtubes on it to familiarize yourself with what you're in for.

I believe this is your part number and what it looks like.

((Be sure you're sitting down before you check the price))
