1998 Buick century Vacuum leak

Topic starter

(90000 miles) My Buick has a small vacuum leak somewhere towards the firewall. I have checked all vacuum hoses and made sure everything isn’t split and is sealed. I can hear a moderate sucking sound or air being blasted out a small hole at my guess is 10-20 psi.

By the way the malfunctioning purge valve from your other topic is a vacuum leak. Fix that first.

Use carb cleaner or do a smoke test to help find the leak.

@chucktobias How would I use the carb cleaner to find it? Just spray it on hoses or my gaskets?

Yes, of course. Spray on suspected leak areas. A vacuum leak will draw in the carb cleaner and cause a change in the engine idle.

@WoodSniper smoke test would be the more reliable preferred way to do it. Don't forget to check all the way around the intake manifold
