1998 Ford F-150 V6 reliability…

Hello everyone, I have a 1998 Ford F-150 with approximately 90,000 miles on it give or take. The odometer broke years ago so I’m not sure what the mileage is tbh. It has the 4.2L V6. It has been reliable this far, but I’m concerned about reliability in the long run because I heard somewhere that ford v6 engines aren’t good. It has been reliable so far, but I would like to hear opinions. Thanks.

Those old engines were pretty solid as long as they weren't overworked, as stated above.

In response to your other question, your mom's old Explorer will likely have transmission problems before engine issues, especially if it is the 2002-2006 generation with a disaster of an auto.

They're fine as long as you don't over stress them if you don't pull a lot of weight and haul a lot of stuff they can last a really long time the V8 engines are needed for heavy hauling though

I don’t plan on hauling too much or towing anything really unless we get a little bass boat someday, so that really eases my mind. Thank you for the info! My moms old Ford Explorer sport has the old 4.0 OHV v6, is it the same for that engine? No heavy towing and it will be fine for a good long time?
