What do you thing about a 1999 ford explorer with the sohc. It had 128,000 miles on it and it cost me $1300. I only drive it 13 miles one way to work. And then 13 miles home.
The 4.0 sohc in 2nd gen explorers is know to have timing chain problems that require the engine to be pulled out of the vehicle in order to fix the problem. You got a great deal with it having only 128k miles but don't be surprised if it has problems around 200k. Other than the timing chain issue, I think they are great engines. Make sure to use a good quality oil filter with an anti drain back valve and change the oil every 3k. That will help the common timing chain problem more than anything else. Motorcraft, Wix , or Napa has good oil filter. Do not get Fram.
