Inspect/replace belts. Closest thing I can come up with for "crackling"!
@hillbilly Mmm its belts are almost due for replacement but their at the right tension, its just a sound ive never heard before from belts alone. Engine is very good for its age, and the sound is definitely outside the engine, which i guess is a good sig
Yea, I wouldn't describe belt sounds as crackling either but neither would I anything else around the area your talking about. Crackling is burning/failing electronic components in my experience. But belts easy to check/replace and about due so... keep us posted.
