1999 Lexus RX300

Hey Scotty,

I have a good friend that is looking to get rid of a 1999 Lexus RX300. I'm thinking of possibly buying it from him as a beater car for $2,000. It's super old obviously, but it is a Lexus driven by a grandparent. They were the original owner, only 79,000 original miles. Car runs like a clock on idle... engine sounds great, interior is in great shape... exterior is pretty nice too.

What do you think of these cars? I would probably only need to drive it around 5,000 miles a year. The car does make a weird sound when you let off the gas pedal... so I will obviously have an independent mechanic check out the car... it's just so old.

What do you think of these cars if a mechanic clears it?

Thanks for reading !

Why is he selling it? Never buy cars from friends is what Scotty says. You would never want to loose a friend. Is there anything wrong that he is selling it?

The person that owned it unfortunately passed away. As far as I know there is nothing wrong with the car itself.... but I would obviously get the car checked out by an independent mechanic.

I couldn't own a car that was previously owned by my good friend's now-deceased grandparent. Breaks my personal rule #1: Never purchase a vehicle you know belonged to someone who passed. I have my reasons.

If you are good with it, have it checked out and if it is only a minor issue, buy it. But never discuss the car around your friend, particularly if something goes wrong with it. Friendships are far more important in this world than material objects. Not to get too philosophical up in here. {black}
