Are the 1st gen chevy colrados/gmc canyons with 5 cyl engines good trucks for daily driving? Are they reliable?
04 05 06 ones are pretty decent if you get a good price. Not up to the likes of the V8 F-150 and V6 Tacoma but still has decent engine transmission but better than the newer ones. Just don't expect all the electronics to work...
@kerem
Thank you for the info. I've been in the market for a used truck and I've been seeing a number of these colorados where I live running for $7k to $10k with 100k to 120k miles. Are they worth buying? I'll mainly use it to drive to school and work. And once in a while use the bed for light loads.
The older ones certainly

The newer ones 2007 2008 and newer are sort of junk but the older ones can be decent. The price you gave seems very expensive though. If you could find a V8 F-150 those would be more reliable for the price point.
@kerem
Ok. And I was also looking at the f150s and I typically see them being sold for $12k to $16k with 120k miles and higher. Are those good prices and would the truck be reliable and still have a good amount of life left?
What years? For an 08 09 model that would be a rip off.
@kerem
The 08 09 10 models seem to be going for $8k to $10k and the 11 models and later are going for $12k to $16k. All of them seem to have around 120k to 140k miles or more.
Wow. Seems like California prices. How much are Tacomas? If the Tacomas are 14 15 16 grand for 07 08 model years I would go Tacoma by far.
@kerem
Yeah, things can be expensive here in NJ! Tacomas are about the price you mentioned. For the most part, the prices I gave you are just the general range of prices. Occassionally I'll see some f150s model 10 or 11 with same number of miles mentioned above for lower than $12k sometimes little over $10k. Same goes for any other truck, sometimes I'll see them for lower than the average price. I do like the tacomas too but, just wondering, if I were to find a good deal, what it be worthwhile to get an f150 with 120k miles or more? Would it it have good reliability and a good amount of life left?
The F-150s with the V8 engines are pretty reliable if you do find a good deal it could be an excellent truck just make sure to have it checked by a mechanic and look for the most problematic years using carcomplaints.com
Just remember if you find a good deal on a Tacoma and all checks out, I would snatch it up.
@kerem
Ok, thank you, I'll keep that in mind. Also, I found an 05 colorado 4x4 crew cab for $5,900 with 140k miles. Is that good? It looks very clean and looks like it's been well taken care of.
Of course you would want a mechanic to check it out and make sure it is in good shape they can be decent.
@kerem
Ok. Thank you for all your help and advice! I really appreciate it!
