There's a 2000 4 Runner SR5 with 267,000 miles for sale near me.  Seller says mostly highway miles. Asking $3,900.  Is it worth it?

I sold my '98 about 2 years ago with 225k miles, but it had four wheel drive, good all terrain tires, timing belt done with oem parts at 210k, and a massive list of preventative maintenance I had done to it. The paint on hood and roof was just starting to go. It ran perfect, and I would drive it to california with no trouble. I sold mine for $4600 here in Georgia, and that was a fair deal.

If it is not 4x4, which adds value to many people, I would say no way right off like Doc said. If it has 4x4 (and it works), and you need that, along with timing belt recently done, lots and lots of maintenance records, and paint looks pretty good, maybe. Also consider other big expenses like tires. I would of course try and get the price down a bit. Those 3rd gen 4runners that are 4x4 hold their value annoying well when you are trying to buy one, especially in my area. I traveled 300 miles to get mine when I bought it at 95k miles and 12 years old.

If it is not 4x4, the price is much too high.

A 21 year old vehicle with over a quarter million miles?  NO.
