You're talking about a 26-year-old vehicle. That thing is considered a classic car now and well past its prime. How much longer do you expect that thing to last? Chevrolet made decent vehicles back then, but they were still nowhere nearly as reliable as a Camry or Accord. I wouldn't be considering daily driving that, especially if it has transmission issues.
When you test drove it, how did the transmission behave? Did you need to maintain high RPMs while cruising at a reasonable speed? If so, that transmission is slipping. I'd take a hard pass on that, rebuilding a transmission will be way more expensive than the SUV's value and you would be better off using that money to buy a newer vehicle.
Please for the Nth time, the title is for your question summary, not car model.
A 26yo SUV with high miles is not reliable.
