2000 Mercury Grand Marquis with Broken HVAC Air Door Actuator

Scotty, ! have a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis (110000 miles) We bought it 5 years ago for @ $2000. The heat/cool door actuator died many moons ago. For a couple of years, our mechanic would get his arm in there and switch it manually between heat and cooling at the beginning of the heating season and the beginning of the cooling season. However, the part that he was able to move manually broke off and he is no longer able to do that. #1 is there a way to fix this WITHOUT taking the whole dashboard apart. OR is it possible to bypass the heater core, run the hoses through the firewall and attach them to a heater core inside the cabin and use a small fan to blow through it for heat?
THANK YOU, Robert & Jackie

Just disconnect them at the firewall and couple them together.
